BitGo CISO joins crypto-custody startup Dfns for compliance-driven security
Paris, 14 June 2022 — Dr. Samer Fayssal, the chief information security officer (CISO) of BitGo, has been hired by Dfns, a Techstars-backed cybersecurity startup that provides decentralized custody as an API, to strengthen compliance-driven security and conduct research programmes on new threat models emerging and targeting actors in decentralized finance (DeFi) and crypto at large.
Dr. Fayssal was the head of security and CISO for BitGo Trust until recently, and before that, he held cybersecurity leadership positions at Rakuten, SolarWinds, Euclidia, LogicNow, and GFI Software. Dr. Fayssal is joining Dfns to advance wallet security and improve user experience with custodial-capable financial applications.
BitGo is the second-largest crypto-custody company, with a market capitalization of $64 billion as of November 2021. Mike Belshe created the company in 2013 in San Francisco, and Galaxy Digital purchased it in May 2021 for more than $1.2 billion. BitGo has never been hacked in its history, making it one of the most secure and well-respected crypto custodians.
Dr. Fayssal was chosen by Belshe because of his impressive career, experience, and abilities as a seasoned cybersecurity executive. Dr. Fayssal has over 20 years of executive leadership, scientific research, and software development experience in the development of 12 security systems and three patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
